The Brief:
To document a 10-day humanitarian mission in the village of Kerr Layen, capturing the raw emotion of community building and the vibrant culture of "The Smiling Coast."
The Execution:
Armed with just my iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 15, DJI Gimbal, and DJI Mini 2 Drone, I set out to prove that you don’t need a film crew to capture a life-changing story.
Over 10 days, I lived alongside the community, filming everything from the heavy lifting of laying classroom foundations to the high-energy rhythms of local cultural celebrations.
The mobility of the iPhone allowed me to be invisible in the best way - capturing candid smiles and genuine moments that a bulky camera rig might have scared away.
Meanwhile, the DJI Mini 2 gave me the perspective needed to show the scale of the village and the impact of the new school building.
The Result:
In a true test of my "mobile-first" workflow, I edited the entire project immediately upon landing back in the UK.
Despite the 10 days of heat and hard work (and being one very tired filmmaker!), the adrenaline of the trip carried me through.
I delivered the final film the same day I arrived home.
Why it mattered:
This wasn't just a project; it was a turning point.
As the trip went on, my creativity shifted.
I stopped just "recording" and started "directing" with my heart.
This film is a testament to what is possible when passion meets the right portable tech.
It’s more than a video; it’s a memory preserved for a community I’ll never forget.
“If I can produce a full-scale video song in the middle of a Gambian village and have it edited by the time I've unpacked my suitcase, imagine what I can do with mobile-first filmmaking for your event or business after a full night's sleep!
I specialise in creating community building videos and documentary storytelling that truly resonate.”
